Can you translate kiddo into plain english for me, please? I have a version, I just want to make sure it is correct. As for diesels, I do own one since 1995, and I'm pretty familiar with its behaivior. Despite of the governor, the speed is controlled by driver, and this cannot be done any other way, at least while we have drivers driving cars. And you did not answer what all this has to do with the original poster's question yet. Could you please? -- MishaA ------------------------------------------------------------------------ MishaA's Profile: http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbul...?userid=469060 View this thread: http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbul...d.php?t=642796 http://www.automotiveforums.com |

Or any number of other random meaningless differences? To answer your question (what I think you REALLY meant) in easy to understand words, the driver is controlling engine’s rotational speed, and the governor is adjusting the amount of fuel so the speed matches what is set by the driver no matter what engine load is (of course within the boundaries of engine’s power, if you want to ask this next). This is leaving out a lot of details and variations that are not relevant to basic understanding of how this thing works. I believe I learnt this like 30 years ago in my University course on diesels, and don’t need to re-learn it. Don’t see how it helps OP case, though. Frankly, I’m puzzled to see how you keep ignoring my questions and keep mounting questions and statements that have no relation whatsoever to the original case. Is it your general style of conversation? -- MishaA ------------------------------------------------------------------------ MishaA's Profile: http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbul...?userid=469060 View this thread: http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbul...d.php?t=642796 http://www.automotiveforums.com |

Looking in today's auto classifieds I see a 2001 Ford Taurus advertised for $2950 and a 2001 Honda Civic DX for $9995. Fords have a reputation for the sort of design you mention, AZ. Hondas don't... and it shows. Mike |

Absolute crap yet people still buy them based on a reputation thirty years out of date. |

The air flow then controls the fuel added. right, but if gas is being injected, the air/fuel mix has to remain roughly proportional to avoid problems with emissions, detonation, etc. quantity of diesel injected otoh has no such restriction and can be anything from full to zero at exactly the same rpms - and the driver has no direct control over that. > >> full pedal can give you zero injection, 30% pedal can give you full >> injection - it depends on load and revs, as determined by the governor, >> not the driver. > |

Sony must be hit and miss because I still buy their products (as I have for 20 years) and the only problem I can recall was a bum headphone jack in a Walkman I bought in the late 80s. In the last 3 years, I have bought a Sony DVD player, a Sony digital camera, and a Sony stereo for my since traded-in Accord. No problems with any of these. |
