This kind of thing is not unheard of.

I haven't seen any gibberish since I set up some spam filters in Forte
Agent. I think this is the best protection.

I filter out all posts from sites that give away throwaway accounts such as
google, yahoo, hotmail, etc.

I don't know if that's a good idea or not.
Some very knowledgeable people post through some of them. You could
be throwing out the baby with the bathwater.

I'd rather lose the one inteligent post a month that uses google than
wade though the thousands of idiotic spam posts.

If I see a followup that quotes an inteligent post from a google user,
I can always add an exception rule. I have one exception rule for aol,
and none for google-groups.
