2006 EXplorer EB Shifter problem?

Hello All.... I'm having an intermittant problem getting my Explorer
out of park. When I step on the brake. sometimes I don't hear or feel
the solenoid in the shifter click. Repeatedly stepping on the brake
does not make any difference. However, if I smack the shifter handle,
it usually fixes the problem temporarilly. Is there any known
problems for this symptom?
I'd like to go to the dealer with some suggestions. It seems
that if the problem doesn't stare them in the face, they will try the
shifter several times and say they can't duplicate it, so they can't
fix it! Thanks..... Neil

I have the exact same problem with an EB 2007 4.0 L.It's really annoying .
Hope someone can help us to identify the origin of the problem. I had a 2002
XLT 4.0 and never had this kind oftrouble. Thanks

Sounds like the solenoid is sticking. Smacking the handle jars it
enough to break it loose. Interesting, someone called in to Car Talk
last Saturday with exactly the same problem. FWIW, they suggested
removing the cover so you could see what the solenoid is doing.

Thanks big shoe for your answer. I 'll suggest it to my mechanics the next
maintenance.
