Default oil change help

does anyone know how much quarts of oil a 98 explorer takes?
and
what type of oil would be best to use?
i know winter is around the corner so, should i use 5W30 or 10w30?
one more thing when it snows do i use low or high 4x4 mode to get better
traction?

thanks in advance

Nearly 5 liters.... dump in 4, run it to check for leaks and then check the
stick..... never, ever call an oil change complete without checking the
stick afterwards.... ever. That's getting close to 6 US quarts.....

You mention snow so we can deduce that it gets chilly (some info would
help.... all of us live all over the planet, not just on your block). 5W30
is factory recommendation for the 4.0. I run it year 'round.... +80 to -50.

Use high range for normal driving - avoid the use of 4WD unless it is
slippery. Using 4X4 on dry pavement will use gasoline and cause undue stress
in the driveline possibly leading to early wear or failure of expensive
components. Low range is strictly for either low speed or high torque
needs.... if you think the gas mileage bites in 4HI.... wait until you see
the mileage in 4LO...

Personally, I only use Pennzoil FULL synthetic 5W30 in my 4.0, I think that
it runs smoother and I get great gas mileage. (19 city). Of course I also
keep every other aspect of the truck in perfect health as well. Hey, I've
got a 97 that you could eat off the motor. Only the best for my baby!
