Transmission fliud change 2003

Any tips on changing the transmission fluid, there is no dipstick to
pour the new fluid in. Thanks

The transmission is filled through the standpipe located in the middle of
the hex plug in the bottom of the pan. Fluid level s also checked using the
standpipe. The fluid can be exchanged with a flushing type machine (don't
try this at home..... while the fluid is pumped from one cooler line, the
other one does NOT suck).

An enterprising soul might come up with something that wont leave too much
evidence in the driveway.... just be sure that the fluid you're putting in
is CLEAN Mercon V...

The entire transmission (including converter) would hold something along the
lines of 12 quarts. If you are just dropping the pan, between 4 and 6...

We have a fitting that screws into the standpipe on the bottom of the trans
pan. Fluid is "forced" through the fitting into the pan. The fluid injector
is unhooked and the fluid is allowed to seek it's own level (I'm not sure
how tall the standpipe is). Re-install the plug in the standpipe, bring the
trans up to operating temperature and allow the trans fluid to seek it's own
'warm' level by removing the plug in the standpipe again.

When removing and installing the standpipe plug, I recommend using a backup
wrench to keep the drain plug from turning (since the standpipe plug is in
the middle of the drain plug). I also recommend working methodicaly..... I
can imagine the feeling in the pit of ones stomach when, returning from a
road test, the standpipe plug is spotted laying in the pile of tools in the
driveway 8^)
