World Racing Series demo - well worth a look

Not the prettiest sim engine in the world, but perfectly adequate. And with all the
aids turned off this trip around Lime Rock is -- IMO anyway -- rather impressive.
It felt a little sterile at first, but with the aids off I soon started to push the
envelope and discover some rather satisfying weight transfer going on via the FFB.

For some reason I've never managed to get the same level of satisfaction with NKPro,
despite spending much longer in the cockpit. So this is either a sign that I have
no talent at diagnosing a decent sim model whatsoever, or that WRS is doing
something right.

You may decide differently, but this is certainly worth a try.

25 Euro for 2 cars and 2 tracks, and MP only? Not this sucker.

On the ripoff scale of one to iRacing it only rates a 2.3 IMO. Anyway, I didn't say
buy it, I suggested people might like to try the demo. I think it's a remarkably
satisfying driving model, and I actually did buy it after spending half an hour or
so lapping Lime Rock.

The other car's not as immediately impressive, but Laguna Seca is an entertaining
drive in the FR2000, which is somewhere between the iRacing Skip Barber and Mazda,
with physics and FFB in the same league (not necessarily equal, but in the same
league for certain).

Anyway, I have no doubt this will struggle to get an audience. NKPro has been
around a lot longer and it struggles. So spending money on it may not be wise. But
I'm in a charitable mood, and the guy working on this deserves a big pat on the
back.

Oh, I think you also get his bike sim for free (and vice versa, if you have the
bike sim already you get this free) which improves the value for money somewhat.

Hmm, looks more like an 8.5 to me. I'll try the demo though and see how
it is. I have heard of it before just never bothered to research it
further. I seem to remember people saying it was a free racing sim but
back when it was free it probably only came with one car with three
wheels and half a track completed.

Thanks for the heads-up, Andy. I hadn't heard of this one before. Does
it support the g25 in a decent manner?

It certainly supports mine very well Uwe. :-) Once calibrated I've had no problems,
and the FFB is pretty convincing IMO.

I did some messing about this morning dropping the wing settings, and I think this
guy really knows what he's doing when it comes to the physics engine.

I may be proved wrong by wiser and less easily distracted sim-heads, but so far the
FR2000 is proving to be a very enjoyable ride indeed. Obviously that doesn't mean
this project is destined for huge success, but I do think it means it should at
least be on everyone's radar as a project to watch.

For $50 and a free (250MB) download, it's worth a shot I guess.

I'll be genuinely interested in what other people think. I do miss the iRacing Skip
Barber, but this is the first virtual car I've raced so far which really makes me
feel that if iRacing disappeared tomorrow (so I could never go back even if I
wanted to) I wouldn't be too bothered. With all the aids off it scratches my
hardcore sim-itch very nicely indeed.

Of course finding a race online will be harder than finding any gold left in Fort
Knox, but such is life. :-)

That *should* be $41US in any case. The points *should* be made that both
cars and the track come free with the demo and it *is* named alpha
software.

That's what the older games are for. Such is the trade-off. I haven't even
found tracks for anything newer than NFS 5 (porsche unleashed/2000) online
(in the NFS line that is).
