Default Over wheel king pin

[My apologizes for the cross post in rec.autos.sport.tech]

Hello group,

I am wondering if any cars ever used what I can best
describe as an "over wheel king pin", so that the axle
is supported on both sides instead of one.

Graphically, the "over wheel king pin" would look like
an upside down U going over the wheel; so that the wheel
axle attaches to each side of the bottom of the upside down
U, and the track arm(s) pivot on the side of the upside down U.

Thanks in advance for any info,
Malcolm Keller Beyer III

Seems to me that some of the early cycle cars had something like that.
The Briggs powered go-kart thingie, perhaps?

Engineering-wise, it doesn't make much sense; instead of adding the
weight of the U-frame, why not just make the axle bigger? Easier to
install and adjust the wheel bearings, too.
