Default passat sunroof questions

I am considering purchasing a passat TDI, either a GL or a GLS. I have seen
on a couple of pages on the 'net that some folks have had problems with
leaks on the passat sunroof. Do any of you have problems with the sunroof?
One guy claimed that he had some electronics get fried from a sunroof leak
and it like cost him 3k to get fixed. Is this an isolated problem or has it
been a situation in which VWOA had to eat a lot of sunroof repairs? I am
getting close to looking very seriously at which one I will get, so any and
all advice would be appreciated. I carefully looked at the service needs
and it looks like this option needs service every now and then.

I think in buying this last year of this body style, I should have a fairly
trouble free example. I would be very afraid to the get the next version in
the first year of a revision.

I know how expensive that can be as I was one of the suckers who bought the
1984 Chrysler Laser Turbo, the first year of that car. I spent more on
electronics, steering racks and so forth than I ever thought one could
spend. Turbo engine on that car never gave a lick of trouble however and
from that viewpoint it was superb. When I traded it four short years later,
I thought I got the better end of the deal when the dealer gave me $2500 for
it in trade....

Anyway, thanks in advance for anyone with the infor re the passat sunroof.

Sunroofs are a joy...

....as long as they work and don't leak. Some will, and some won't. Wish I
knew an easy way to tell what one might do down the road.

This might help: do you plan to keep the car past the warranty? If so, I
think I'd pass on the sunroof.

I've been bit a little too hard by the one in my car BUT it was damaged by a
previous owner. Thankfully, it being an 86 QSW, when it leaks it doesn't
cost 3 grand to fix.
