Default Best auto for recreational backfiring? Techniques?

You know... turn off the key, count 1...2...3...4 and then back
on and ** POW!! **

I want to find the best auto for making lots of loud B-O-O-M
noises... not some wimpy little squirrel farts, but a thunderous
roar that would wake the dead within 50 yards of the roadside!
We're talking about pre-engine-computer era cars here - I doubt
any more modern engine could be coaxed into such naughty
activities, could it?

And, I don't want to have mufflers or exhaust manifolds that
wimp out after just a few "events" - they need to take repeated
"experiments" like a trooper!

I once knew a guy with a 1970 Mustang convertable, 351 Cleveland,
auto tranny, that must have been built for just such action
because he could sail down the road and do "the thang" every
few seconds and the car never seemed to care one bit. Riding
with him a night was great fun... the "flash" illuminated
the road behind us like a big strobe light!

He even once let loose with a "big one" once and had a state
cop pull out from his hiding place and start following him
and eventually pulled him over.

The guy told the cop a big fib about a loose coil wire and that
if he followed him long enough it might do it again. The cop let
him go and said "Oh, I thought maybe you threw an M-80 at me - I
was taking a little nap back there and you scared the crap out
of me!!"... the cop let him go, no more questions asked.

So... anyone have any candidates? Is a stickshift better suited
than an automatic? Best techniques? Downshifting? How much gas
pedal (or none at all)?
