Default Clutch Fluid Leak

I took my 96 Explorer to the shop to have them look at the clutch. They told
me the fluid was leaking and they'd have to pull the transmission in order to
correct the problem. Price tag... $500? Is it necessary to drop the
transmission to fix a clutch fluid leak?
