Fan belt making weird revving up/down sounds.
My car recently started whining- it seems to be the fan belt up front.
You can hear the pitch get higher and lower based on how much gas you give it. Is this a sign of a dying belt...or worse? 2002 FE V8 XLT Thanks! |

Start the engine (don't run it very long) to check if noise gone. Hope so... Install new belt. Check for the noise again. Still gone? Happy day. Otherwise... sdb -- Wanted: Omnibook 800 & accessories, cheap, working or not sdbuse1 on mailhost bigfoot.com |

Its not the belt- I think it may be the alternator- thats the direction
i'm heading in...the sound is definitely coming from the alternator (or extremely near it). sylvan butler wrote: > On 17 Aug 2006 07:48:21 -0700, Some Dude > wrote: > > You can hear the pitch get higher and lower based on how much gas you > > give it. Fan belt making weird revving up/down sounds.
For future googlers this one turned out to be a failing power steering.
Needed replacement. All fixed.
