Default Using your car at work - better to lease one?

Hello everyone - first post here.

My girl's 2002 VW Golf 2.0 has a history of problems. At least it
seems so to me (let me know if this isn't an exceptional amount of
problems).

New tranny at 12k
Idling/bucking problem at 29k
Burns oil like crazy (all 2.0 VW's do)
At 31k yesterday, the Check Engine light came on.

Her new job involves driving to area colleges and job fairs. Her
company will reimburse the use of her Golf for 30 cents/mile.

I'm afraid of what her Golf will cost now that it's out of
warranty. I am considering encouraging her to sell her car and lease a
Honda Accord at $199/mo. She currently pays $275 to own (not lease) the
VW.

I believe leasing the Honda makes financial sense. While she gets 30
cents/mile for gas, that doesn't totally offset the inevitable
maintenance costs. The Golf will pick up many "work" miles, which
means the high VW repair costs will happen sooner.

With a leased car, it's A) under warranty the whole time and B) being
"more paid for" by the company than the VW.

I just don't think it's fair for her to assume all the maintenance
costs associated with using her own car at work.

What are your opinions? I'd like to present a good-financial-sense
case if there is one.

(On the emotional side, she's got a whole denial issue with the burning
oil. No matter how many times I find a dry dipstick, she still won't
check the oil regularly. I can't convince her that this will cost $$$
in the long run. After a year, she still thinks that someday she'll get
around to adopting the habit of checking and topping off. I don't love
her any less, but I know where this will lead. Her last car, a beater,
died as a result of burning oil that she never checked.)
