CR-V Design (glitch?)

Something I recently noticed while researching the CR-V as a possible
choice.

The rear bumper and the rear hatch.

If the rear bumper is hit, so is the rear hatch and any minor or major
damage to the bumper is nothing compared to the repair cost of the rear
hatch.

Suddenly the side opening RAV-4 with the outside mounted spare looks much
more appealing.

While this issue is a design flaw, it is yet another strike against the CR-V
on my checklist.

Comments? Suggestions? Solutions?

Anything to help with my research is greatly appreciated!

I have owned lots of fords and haven't had any real flaws. My father
owns a 97 chevy express van and that thing has doors that open into
themselves. If you look at any of them that have the barn doors rather
than the sliding side door, you will see creases in them.

bottom line, if you want to play without parental protection kiddo, you
better get ready to deal with the response public display of stupidity

No, you're rather pathetically looking for reassurance because you can't
trust your own opinion.

Please, do us all a favor and buy anything BUT a CR-V. We'd hate to
read about your fiery death when you can't open the back hatch after an
oil change.

So if the RAV-4's rear bumper is hit, its door and spare tire will escape
injury? How do you determine that?

Interesting you would come to that conclusion. One of the auto magazines
(sorry, I don't remember which) came to exactly the opposite conclusion when
evaluating the previous CR-V and RAV-4 because in a rear end collision the
spare tire becomes the bumper and the tailgate, as well as the surrounding
opening, is virtually guaranteed to be destroyed.
