Hi all,
I'd written earlier about the clacking noise on the window of my my2004 E60; the frequency of clacking varies according to the ambient temperature (more clacking as weather turns cool), and the road surface condition (the smoother the road, the lesser the noise).
I took the car to the local dealer today...they said that the noise does occur with some cars (but not every one). They originally thought that the probem could be resolved by applying lubricant to the window; they've also seeked advise from BMW hq. I've been told that BMW hq did some studies and now they can fix the problem...I've got to leave the car with the shop for a day so that their mechanics can apply a special lubricant to the frame (not the window) - when the window is fully cranked up, the frame applies a pressure on the window and in absense of the lubricant, clacking occurs. They then need to drive the car and tweak the tightness between the window and the frame.
Since the whole process takes a day (even two, I was told), I've booked an appointment later to fix it (btw, I've gotten used to the noise so am in no particular hurry to fix it now). Will update this newsgroup as to the results thereafter.
