Default 1998 Mazada 626 Transmission problems

We have a Mazada 626 and the OD light starting flashing and then the
transmission started shifting very hard. Now our car will not go in
reverse, does anyone have any ideas? When we shift to neutral it will go
forward and in reverse it will not go. HELP PLEASE!!!!

I am having some what similar problems with my 01/626 I pulled up to my
house and put the car in park and went to back up and nothing. I am
wondering can any one tell me if this sort of problem is fixable or should
I just trade her in. It is a 2001 626 with 98k miles on it. And the gear
shift moves but I get nothing from the transmission when I put it in
reverse, drive nor any other gear. HELP ME please, this just happened last
week so I am still in the denial stages. What can I do if anything.

Call the dealer or a transmission shop. Check with the better business
bureau as to which ones are reputable.

Your problem is fixable but it may be expensive. Based on the 98K miles most
shops will want to do a rebuild or replace the transmission rather than find
the problem and repair it.

Consider the trade in value, the Kelly Blue Book is around $3,000 trade in
for average condition and with the transmission not working will be much
less... you'll have to make the decision.

Thank you somuch for your in put it does help to know someone else is kind
enough to help with a question. Hopefully I will still be able to drive
her once I have her serviced but I have heard they never drive or ride the
same once the transmission is redone. Well we shall see what happens when I
get her to the shop. Keep your fingers crossed for me.

Save that advice, it's probably the best fertilizer you can get for your rose
bushes... if the tranny is redone correctly (and it's not difficult to do) it
will be *EXACTLY* the same as it was when new.

You are being ripped off - check Google for Mazda problems.
I had the same problems with my Mazda 626.

1) Do a goole search for "azda auto transmission" lots of them are
failing, transmissions too small, and a 49.00 cooling kit may be
needed. Hot and/or humid weather makes them act up - overheating per
the web pages. Also search for the "EJournal". You will find lots of
sources on line via Google. Get in line.

2.) Make sure your car is off, and the emegercy brake is on, and the
your car is on level ground.

For you shift problem, there should be a notch on the left side of
your engine that shift your gears, it is shifted from inside your car
by a rubber strap. Get a flash lite, have someone to shift gears,
feel down next to the strap (when the engine is cool of course), and
you should be able to slip this strap back on you car and shift the
gears. You may also be able to shift by using your fingers to push
the small shift notch (on the side of you engtine with your fingers
(to park, reverse, drive, 2nd, etc.) A new one may cost you about
133.00 bucks? Check on the net for prices (do know the proper name
for this part, sorry).

That should at least get you going. A lot of people have and are
being ripped off - 60 Minutes where are you?

Best wishes & hope that help
