Default 89 Accord headlights don't turn off

I have an 89 Honda Accord and when I turn off the car, the headlights
stay on. This problem happened at the same time that my dash stopped
lighting up and there is no dinging sound anymore that reminds me when
I leave the lights on. I checked the fuses and they are fine. Any
suggestions?

Yes. I had to disconnect the battery so that they would turn off.

Dunno... Hard to tell on the internet, but kinda sounds like either
a bad switch, or the wiring running through the steering column
is flaking out. Seems like it would still ding if the lights are on,
but maybe the wiring to the dinger is one of the bad ones..
That the ding doesn't work almost leads me to believe it's the
wiring rather than the switch, but it's hard to say without looking
at the circuit.
