Default spark plugs???

I have a 93 ford mustand, 4 clyinder engine. I was changing the spark
plugs and noticed this car has 8 spark plugs and 2 coils!!!

Ive never seen this before - whats up with this??

Stock... it is absolutely stock..... 4 plugs fire all the time, the other
four only fire when the PCM programming deems the need to fire them. Since
your car is over 10 years old, you can see it's been around for a while.....

Nissan had an almost identical setup in the early 80's. I know of an
'81
Nissan pickup that has it. Kinda weird popping the hood and seeing an 8
cylinder distributor cap on that motor. (Well, not quite. It has two
coil
terminals on it.....)

Your 4 had such a poor combustion chamber burn they added plugs to
the exhaust side to lower emissions. But I'm sure it gets good gas
mileage.

I had a '92 with this same setup. None of the power of a V8 and all of the
tune-up costs.

It did get pretty good mileage though, especially for a heavy convertible.
Would almost get 30 on a long trip of mostly highway driving, or even in
town if I was nice it would get 27-28....
