Default IDOT and the giant pothole...

Reading about the giant pothole in the elevated portion of the dan ryan
today and came across something that just seems typical of road care
around these parts.

http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/l...l=chi-news-hed

<...>
-> IDOT knew about the pothole for several years, CLTV reported, but it
-> worsened from a nuisance to a danger to motorists when heavy traffic
-> combined with fluctuating temperatures and precipitation of recent weeks
-> widened and deepened the depression.
->
-> Crews closed three lanes of the outbound Ryan between 17th and 18th
-> Streets about 7:30 a.m. Thursday after they discovered concrete in the
-> vicinity of the pothole had "disintegrated and punched all through the
-> road deck," said IDOT spokesman Mike Claffey.

Knew about it for several years and just decided to wait until it was all
the way through and had to be fixed on an emergency basis in the middle
of winter.... Of course this the same section of the ryan where the lane
lines have been removed and yet to be repainted.
