Default Need advice on repaira car

My car has problems(High Idel speed problem) . I need some advice on
how to take it to a garage to have it checked and repaired. I don't
want to be ripped off a large sum of money.

Need I to phone the garage to talk about the problem before I go to
have it checked? Is there any good garage you guys recommend?

Rick

You just ask them to check what it is and give you work estimate.
You will have to pay diagnostic fee if you dont take the job
they estimated, or, when you agree to do it, the diagnostic fee
will be waived and you will be charged for the job done.

If you are on the budget and do not want to pay big labor fees
dont go to the dealer, go to your local mechanic working on the
type of cars you have problem with.

Strange question when you never written where do you live...
You do not care if this "good garage" be somewhere in Australia, USA or UK ?

Think man, think!!! USA is a big country...
How do you expect anybody suggest you a good local garage
without even knowing what state are we talking about ?

Absolutely yes. But don't expect them to say much more than they have to
see it.

The reason it's critical to phone in advance is that you want to know how
they deal
with phone calls. If you phone in advance and get an answering machine, why
then
if you take the car home after they work on it and there's a problem, well
do you
want to call and tell that problem to an answering machine? :-) Also find
out their
hours and drop-off/pick-up procedures. If they are only open Monday through
Friday from 10:00am to 5:00pm and you have a job that you can't get off from
until 5, well then how are you going to get over there and pick up your car
when it's
done?

Also some garages specialize in certain models and you don't want to waste
your time going to them if they don't work on your kind of car.

Dealerships generally work on cars that are younger than 8 years or so, and
get
a lot of warranty work as you might imagine, so if you have an older car
they may
not be good choices to take it to.

Some kinds of work, like Air Conditioning work, really should go to a place
that specializes in just doing it.

Ted
