dodge caravan brakes
I have a problem.....
I have a 1998 Dodge caravan that needed a front brake pad replacement. I've done tonnes of vehicle brakes and such but for some reason the new pads on my caravan are overheating! I checked to make sure that the pads are square in the caliper and that everything that needs to be lubed is well lubricated. I test drove the van and the braking was really good when the brakes were cold but as I drove more and more the brakes began to fade to the point where I can barely stop. Of course after my test drive the brakes were burnt and the wheels were really hot. I took everything apart to double check the alignment and such and I have found nothing out of the ordinary. Why are my brakes doing this? Its not just one side its both sides that are burnt smelling. Suggestions? Thanks |

Get it off the ground and see if the wheels turn freely, if not obviously
this dragging is the problem, but why, If this problem did not exist before the pad repalcement, go over the installation and look for something in the installation process, binding slides on the caliper bracket, pads improperly installed and such. There are other reasons the brakes could drag but if it started after the installation there is some connection here. If not dragging, look at the rear brakes not working and over loading the front. I see on your post you've rechecked your work. Check the fluid in the m/c make sure it is not contaminated, look at the seal on the cap if it is oily or wrinckled up, there may be p/s fluid erroneously added to the cylinder. This causes the m/c piston seals to swell and blocks the by pass port and the brakes will drag. good luck "Steve" > wrote in message news:Bm9xd.520708$Pl.39409@pd7tw1no... >I have a problem..... > > I have a 1998 Dodge caravan that needed a front brake pad replacement. > I've > done tonnes of vehicle brakes and such but for some reason the new pads on > my caravan are overheating! > > I checked to make sure that the pads are square in the caliper and that > everything that needs to be lubed is well lubricated.
