Default Info on 67 Bug needed...

Wednesday, December 22 2004, @ 11:34 AM (-0700 GMT)

Hi,

I own, and am selling, a restored 67 Bug and have heard it referred to
as "the rarest year" beetle by some. This is because it had more "one
year only" parts on it than any other, and its the last of the
"vintage" Bugs.

Here is a partial list of its features: Last year for "plumbers
bumpers," low back seats, & first year for a 12V electrical system.
Only year for dual-spout air cleaner, cut back deck lid, door
handles, back-up lights, dash/window large knobs, door frame 12V
sticker, etc.

My question is: what OTHER one year only things about it have I
overlooked in my list above? I'm really curious. <g>

Are there any web sites that get "in to" this sort of thing?

Also, if any one is interested, the History Channel, in a show called
"Full Throttle," is presenting a show on the 1967 Bug, and Bug drag
racing, at 9 PM, PST here in So. CA. I understand it will be repeated
3 more times.

Thank you,

Jim

Things I can think of:
last 5-lug drums
wider rear axles ( 1 year only that had 5-lug)
first 1500 (Type 1)
1 year only brake fluid reservoir

If you're *really* anal about all the details, order a copy
of the *new* J.T. Garwood "book"- "Car of the Century":

It's on CD now.

Thanks Speedy!

I never really thought of myself as being "anal" about it, <ROFL> but,
I guess you got a point! I'm really "baffled" about WHY the Bug
Builder did all these many things so different just this ONE year?
Geez, they had to throw out a LOT of stuff they'd "tooled up" for when
they next built the 68 model. Makes you wonder just WHY all that
happened?

They did the same thing in 1960 with the Ghia/Bus/Bug models. Some of those
parts are NLA, something to consider when buying a VW of that year. Not sure
why, maybe they were design issues that proved to be problamatic and then were
dropped??

In 68, the changes were made due to U.S safety requirements. The padded dash
being one of them.
