1993 525i - power locks unlocking themselves
Just picked up a 1993 525i in great shape, but a few things slipped by my
inspection. Most importantly, the locks have a tendancy to unlock themselves. If I lock them while I'm in the car, they may immediately pop back up, or they might pop up some minutes later. Sometimes they'll go up and down a couple times in quick succession. Once up (unless they immediately go back down), they stay up. This has happened a few times after I left the car as well, i.e. returned to find it completely unlocked. Seems like a short somewhere to me, but thought I'd try this group out before trying the more expensive and time consuming solutions. Thanks for any help! |

It's in a prime position to get gummed up and not release once pressed. -- The instructions said to use Windows 98 or better, so I installed RedHat. |

IE-if there is a door ajar, the system will lock then pop the lock open. The door may be closed, but if the sensor for that door is faulty you will experience exactly what you have described. You can check by making sure all the doors are closed, then open one and manually depress the pressure switch and try to lock. If you find one that causes the problem even when you manually depress it that's the bugger. Of course, if none of the sensors replicates the problem you will have to visually inspect to see if perhaps the door is not closing enough to depress the sensor. Good luck. > -- > The instructions said to use Windows 98 or better, so I installed RedHat. > |
