Default Caravan tranny noise

A friend has a '94 6-cyl. Caravan.

Recently he has noticed what he says is a clunking noise from the
tranny as he slows to a stop at a stop sign, red light etc. He's going
fairly slow when it happens.

The same noise reappears when he starts up from a stop.

An occassional "slamming" into gear when he shifts from P to Drive
rounds out his problems.

He had the fluid "exchanged" "Not too long ago" he says at Jiffy Lube.

I suggested he have an independent garage swap out the fluid and make
sure they put ATF-3 in.

Any other thoughts, suggestions?
