Default Exxon reports massive profits for first quarter

NEW YORK, April 27, 2006 (CBS/AP) - With the price of gas skyrocketing
and political leaders of both parties calling for emergency relief
measures, another oil company reported massive profits Thursday
morning.

Exxon Mobil Corp. made an $8.4 billion profit in the first quarter -
that's a 7 percent increase over last year.

Net income rose to $1.37 per share for the January-March period from
$7.86 billion, or $1.22 per share, a year ago. Revenue grew to $88.98
billion from $82.05 billion a year earlier.

Irving, Texas-based Exxon Mobil is the world's largest publicly traded
oil company. In January, it posted the highest quarterly and annual
profits of any U.S. company in history: $10.71 billion for the fourth
quarter of 2005 and $36.13 billion for the full year.

ConocoPhillips announced record profits yesterday, but it's no doubt
not the last. On Friday Chevron is expected to announce close to $4
billion in profits.

The American Petroleum Institute, an industry trade group, is spending
millions of dollars in newspaper and television ads to convince
Americans that their profits have nothing to do with higher gas prices,
CBS News correspondent Byron Pitts reports...

ConocoPhillips' net income jumped to $3.29 billion, or $2.34 per share
for the January-March period, from $2.91 billion, or $2.05 per share,
in the year-earlier period. Revenue at ConocoPhillips grew to $47.9
billion in the first quarter from $38.9 billion last year.

Fadel Gheit, an analyst with Oppenheimer & Co., said things will only
get better for the company, citing its $33.9 billion acquisition of
Burlington Resources completed March 31...

I wonder how much more fuel oil, gasoline and diesel was consumed over the
previous year?

If $8.4 billion in profits is massive, then what are the $25.8 billion in
taxes that Exxon Mobil paid in the first quarter (an 11 percent increase
over last year)? Why doesn't the news media publicize the fact that Exxon
Mobil's taxes are more than three time their profits? When are the political
leaders or news media going to start an investigation into the massive and
obscene tax gouging of the American public by all levels of government
profiting on high oil and gas prices?

It is obvious that the political agenda on gas and oil is more important
than a sensible economic agenda.

If all the oil companies actually pay that much, maybe they can pay for
the oil wars.

What else would we expect from the Bush government? The plan has come
quite nicely for the oil executives who put Bush and Cheney in power.
It's like putting the fox to guard the hen house.

Bush is pretty a lame duck waiting for this stupid ****ing head to be
thrown in jail. He careless about the American people and the American
consumers. His friends in the oil business are happy. And that is all
what matters most.

While sons and daughters of American people are getting fried in the
deserts of Iraq, Bush's twins are pampered in the comfort of "green
carpet" and would never see actions, especially actions in Iraq war, one
that the dumbass Bush Jr. started but has no clue how to end.

This is the picture expected from having the rich and the corrupt family
to rule a democracy - or at least a phantom democracy. The American
people indeed deserve what they get: a loser like Bush to run the country
into the abyss of shame and destruction.

At this point, Bush and his gang are obviously running dry on excuses for
their "mistakes". The butt-ugly devil-like Condi Rice and her tricks will
not do any good. And neither is the **** head Rumsfeld. They are all
losers. And losers will destroy your life and your future if you let them
take control of your life.

Today you are paying over 3 bucks for a gallon of refined oil. Tomorrow,
you may have to shell out $6 for a gallon. At the same time, watch a the
fat profits racked in by the oil companies while your Republican
government continues to give the hefty tax breaks. Your children will pay
for the great debts created by this Republican government. And you are
basically and royally ****ED! I am not saying the corrupt Democrats would
be any better. What the US needs is an indepedent government with no
influence from corporate America and one that dedicates its goal to
server the American people and democracy - not corporations and tyranny
and greed.

It's not too late. Remove corrupt and corporate-controlled politicians in
November, regardless they are Democrats or Republicans. Hopefully, the
same cheating tool, e.g., Diebold voting machine, used to get Bush and
Cheney "elected" will not be repeated in November.

Must be true. The other day I bumped into two oil executives sitting on
a curb with tin cups in their hands and signs that said, "Help me pay
for my yacht."
