Default TROLL ALERT

OK, this newsgroup has some trolls, and a couple of SUPER Trolls.
They get their rocks off baiting other users. They also change
identities fairly often.

Please try to identify them and do not respond to their tactics.
Identification is pretty easy. Simply look at the things they say.
Things such as anti-American postings which are obviously intended to
inflame are typical. Praise for the terrorists who perpetrated 9/11,
anti-Vietnam comments, anti-Iraq/Middle East comments regarding US
involvement, etc. Statements which are obviously contrary to the
historic record.

Many will note I have been targeted for my service in Vietnam. I do
not care. It's ancient history, and nothing a troll says hurts me. So,
please, don't defend me, or others for that matter. It just feeds the
trolls need to be recognized in a world where they would normally be
nameless, faceless nobody drones, who will never accomplish anything
of importance.

Everyone is entitled to their individual beliefs, as well as freedom
of speech. Those are part of the basis for the creation of Usenet...
the free flow of ideas. This does not mean being abusive, as these
troll are. The goal of the trolls is to prevent other users from
enjoying that environment.

Remember, the charter for this newsgroup prohibits discussions of
things like religion and politics. It's supposed to be about Mustangs.
Their history, maintenance, preservation.

Please review your news reader for procedures on creating a killfile.
Then, once a troll is identified, killfile them. If your news reader
has a killfile setting for "delete", that troll's posts won't arrive
in your threads. This will not get rid of them totally because they
can only get their rocks off by causing trouble for others. It's
terrible to be a failure in life.

Please, don't give the troll the recognition they seek. They may never
go away, but we can at least deny them their fun.

Another thing to think about is the fact that the identities change before a
killfile can kill subsequent posts. From what I can tell, it doesn't go back
and use previous names. Just ignore it entirely.

If you use Xnews, there are ways to killfile posters other than the
obvious. Even with morons who use a multitude of user names, there is going
to be something in all of it's headers that you can use to killfile.

I've had good success posting some of the headers in news.software.readers,
and asking the Xnews gurus how to killfile the idiot. They can almost
always find something.

I haven't found any commonalities yet.

One commonality one seems to use a lot is "hurc ast" (horizontally,
vertically, or a combination thereof, no matter what user name is
selected. I would guess it can change this but, it's something.

Of course, the easiest is for everyone to recognize and ignore such
posters. They may not go away, but at least no one will be helping
them.

Since I pay for my news server, I have submitted an abuse report to
them. I seriously doubt they desire to have their customer base
reduced because someone wants to abuse the system. My isp is also
involved because the contract with certain carriers.

Again. This may accomplish little, but added to any other actions may
help create a better atmosphere. To do nothing is to contribute to the
problem.

The problem is that his isn't in the header so it's not something the
newsreader can screen out.

Working it with various isps. It would help if others did likewise.
They need the entire header and the posting.
