Need Help with 89 Honda Accord

Howdy folks. I have a problem with my 89 Honda Accord. I have spark,
fuel and air, but the darn thing just wont start. Can someone who may
have had this problem tell me what fixed yours? Main relay? ECM?

Do you have compression?

Define "won't start".
1) Engine won't crank at all (starter does not operate)
2) Engine cranks (chugga chugga chugga), no sign of firing
3) Engine cranks, sputters or coughs occasionally
4) Engine cranks, fires up but stalls.

Are you sure the spark is happening at the right time? Have you checked
with a timing light?

Do you have a carb or FI? Have you tried pushing the gas pedal to the floor
while cranking?

What's the maintenenance history of this vehicle?

More details please.

Clarification: Have you tried _HOLDING_ the pedal to the floor while
cranking ? ? It may take a while if it's flooded. This trick is in your
Owner's Manual.

My Accord is carbureted. I have tried hold accelerator down while
attemting to start.

Should not do that. The pump should only run while the coil is firing. The
Fuel Cut off Relay is probably bad (transistor failed ON).

But this is not the reason for your no-start.

I would also try some starting fluid (from hardware store) directly into
the carb while cranking.

Now that you've got sparks and correct timing, i would suggest turning
the key to the START position immediately after the first click while
holding the gas pedal to the floor. if the engine sputters or attemps
to start, you've got a faulty fuel cut off relay that's stuck ON, but
i seriously doubt if you've got a flooded condition. Honda's fuel
systems are safety-proof, i've seen may cars catching fires, none of
them were Hondas

i suspect a fuel starvation condition, verify that by looking at your
spark plugs. If that's the case then check your ignition coil. Measure
the resistance between two terminals that two blue/white wires
connected to. You should see a 2.2KOhm. If the resistor breaks, the
coil will still receive the pulses from the igniter and produces
sparks, but there will be NO power reaching the fuel cut off
relay.

In the carbed version of the 89 Honda Accord, the fuel pump is powered
on as long as the ignition is powered on, no foul in that. But the
fuel cut off relay (a solenoid) will block the flow of fuel when there
it sees no power.
