I have never hit one. Funny thing. I'm one of those drivers people accuse of driving with their foot to the floor all the time. I drive in deer-infested areas (particularly Valley Forge Park and the nearby environs). But I've never hit a deer. Other people I know, one of whom has a reputation for slow and careful driving, have hit deer. So I don't think speed's it. A lot is luck, of course. Especially when you consider that some people who have "hit" deer didn't hit the deer with the front of the car. Sometimes the damn deer just jumps straight at the car. However, I say go ahead and hit deer, if you don't value your car. Since there aren't any wolves or other medium-to-large predators around, the automobile is the deer's only "natural" enemy. Keep those populations in check, people. But use an SUV or minivan or maybe a Kenworth; sports cars like mine just aren't good enough for a clean kill. -- There's no such thing as a free lunch, but certain accounting practices can result in a fully-depreciated one. |
