Something to consider- The Bugpack "Mondo/Kymco/Magnaflow/Dynomax mufflers, IMO, are pretty much a waste of time, on a stock engine. They come into their own, when you have more displacement, compression, cam lift/duration/overlap, bigger valves, ported and polished heads, etc. The thing is this- If'n ya gets it IN, ya gots to get it OUT. There is a thing called E to I ratio (Exhaust to Intake Ratio), most commonly associated with cylinder heads, it says that your heads should flow 75% as well on the exhaust, as they do on the intake, give or take a few %. If you run a free-flowing exhaust on an otherwise stock engine, you run the risk over over-scavenging the engine.. that is, you are pulling exhaust out faster than the intake is coming in... that can result in a lean condition, which, especially on an air-cooled engine, is NOT good. By the same token, having a 2276, with a big cam, big valve ported and polished heads, yada yada yada, and a stock muffler setup, with restrictive heater boxes, will burn your engine up just as quickly, due to excessive heat being stored in the combustion chambers due to the exhaust not being to dispose of the gases as quickly as the engine is making them ( can you say "Back pressure"? I knew that you could..) Just IMHO, your mileage may vary. |

I might try the Monza.. That's good to know about the ceramic Joey.. it
costs a whole lot more, and looks so much better in the pictures.. I can assure you I was shopping from the cheapest sources, such as Bugpack.. CIP1, and Seranno. I definately was not looking at quality ceramic. I don't really want any chrome eighter, because of rust. I built an engine a few years ago, and the rust of tin, etc.. was a major battle. Powder coating will be the new thing for me. Anyone on here have a Monza? Did your engine blow up after a year? Let me ask you all this.. I would like a 1914cc because I am assuming 150hp.. but alot of people reccomend the 1776cc due to reliability.. I can't afford a pro builder.. so don't know if the 1776cc that I purchase would push even 125hp.. Is it common for a 1776 to put out 125hp? Does the 1776 also stick with a single carb? as the 1914cc almost always runs duals with an extractor... I don't want to spend over $3000.. What is the most for my money in this situation?? Has anyone ever heard of Seranno on Samba? Are his engines ok? Joey Tribiani wrote: > "anton" > wrote in message > oups.com... > > Another option is monza exhaust. What is the most for my money in this situation?? > > Has anyone ever heard of Seranno on Samba? Are his engines ok? > Steve (serrano's) gets rave reviews for quality....his engine customers all agree that promised delivery times are way off, but the wait is worth it....i have no personal experience on his engines...i have ordered a few parts from him and was very pleased with the parts/service/etc.... a Monza exhaust won't cause your engine to blow, but as i hear it(ie:read) it is quite restrictive...i bought a bug many moons ago that had one on it, and honestly it sounded okay, but stuck out too far(i'm a fan of no bumpers) so i tossed it.... any highperformance engine you build will likely need dual carbs....remember the engine is an airpump, so you need a good flowing intake/carb setup that flows into a good flowing set of heads, then out a good flowing exhaust...and more importantly those parts/systems need to compliment and work together.....1776 or 1914 will both live happy lives provided they are built with good parts, built properly, and not abused.....time must be taken to assure the entire engine is designed to work together....you can order parts and just bolt em together and it will run...might even have good power....but it is a tradeoff.... you get better efficiency out of a well planned build...with greater efficiency you get better power, longer life, less wasted heat(causing overheating), and more smiles each time you mash the pedal.... |
