Default A/C hiss noise, 96 Gr. Caravan

When the AC is on in my 96 GC (3.3L) I sometimes here a hssing noise coming
from the front left dash area. It lasts for about 10 seconds or so and then
stops. It is especially noticable when the A/C is on and the ignition is
turned off.
A/C cooling performance seems fine.
Any ideas?

Based on my '98 T&C:

The system will make hissing noises after the compressor & vehicle are
turned off, which is normal.

My experiences show that when the A/C makes internal hissing noises while it
is running, this is a sign of low coolant. Mine has had a slow leak that my
mechanic has been trying to identify. The system doesn't make any hissing
noises when it's fully charged, but the hissing starts before I can tell any
loss in cooling performance.
