1998 caravan rough idle - Coil pack(s) ?
I have a question. I have a 1998 dodge caravan (3.0L 6CYL). When I am
sitting at a idle with the gear in drive at a stop light/sign, the van misses out terribly. Whenever I am drive down the road or highway there doesn't seem to be a miss in it. I took it to autozone and had a diagnostic done and it had codes for misfires on cyl 1 and 6. I changed the distributor cap, the rotar, has new plug wires, and replaced the plugs. That did not help. I was told that maybe this could be one of the coil packs. I always thought that there was only one coil pack. Any way, is the coil pack a dealer only item and about how much do they run? Also, was I told right that it could be one of the coil packs? Thanks. Thomas Jarboe |

The 3.0 engine doesn't have a coil pack,it has a dist.
It sounds like you may have a burnt exhaust valve , which is some what common on the later model 3.0 A simple compression test will tell you if you have a burnt valve. |
