Click on, "search," and use the term, "red light camera," and it should
show a link to the video.

link to the video.

S&DDAM indicating that it runs red lights:

"You're making a left turn right behind some semi or fedex or ups truck
and you can't see the light but you follow the truck anyway while he
slowly makes the left and when the light is finally visible to you it's
red."

So much for the effectiveness of the red light camera preventing this
sort of thing. Got a nice clear picture of what happened though.

Wow, looks like one of gpstard's students was on his way to class!

WHAT??? Neither SPEED NOR ALCOHOL were the cause of the accident? How
can that be?

No, I'm not blaming the trucker. The guy was driving his car to one of
gpstard's classes when the event occurred. Anyone dumb enough to be
one of gpstard's students is dumb enough to drive under a trailer.

Why didn't the truck have a side barrier to prevent such an "under run"
accident occurring? Surely this would be a requirement in the most
litigious country on the planet!!

Nope. No truck I've seen has such a thing. As poorly as some RR
crossings are in the US (i.e. the grade crossing is up to a foot or more
higher than the highway), sidebarriers would cause a lot of trucks to
get hung up on the tracks.

Overall, though, IMO, if someone is stupid enough to drive up under a
truck like that, they deserve what they get.

They are not that close to the ground in my memory, but it has been some
years sinve I've been overseas or even looked at picture of a truck so
equiped. Guess I'll go a googling...

Well I think they should be there because it's not always some idiot in
the car that is the problem, but the trucker or a collision punts the car
of someone entirely innocent under the semi.

It's not that they are necessarily close to the ground; it's just that
in some locations the grade itself was either designed or fabricated
by morons. Over the past 10 years or so, as time permits, they've been
doing some clean up of the mess in this area, but as it is, we're not
to the point where trucks can clear all our local crossings.

The cops are saying "driver inattention". Uhm, ya think?? If this mope
ever drives again, I'm SURE he'll be looking out for red lights AND large
trucks - as he should've been doing in the frickin' FIRST place.
