Default learning auto mechanic at home

What do you think about learning auto mechanic course study-from-home?

I'm interested in "professional careeer development institute".

I will be doing just for know-how. I'm not doing it for adopting as
career but just know how.

My only concern is that what I'll be learning on my own with tools and
books. Any body ever done that? His/her experience?

Thanks

Abbas

the learn at home programs are alright.. Harcourt Learning has a decent
course.
Nothing beats hands on thought, but the program gives you the theory behind
all the topics of an automobile.
with theory you should be able to understand how things work and in essence,
be able to perform a particular service adequatly.
Problem is, if you know nothing about tools, and can not do basic engine
work, like replacing air filter, doing your own oil changes and whatnot,
being a mechanic is not for you.

It is beyond important that you know how to name and identify more than just
screwdrivers and wrenches.
being a mechanic today requires you to be somewhat of a contorsionist..
