Default 86 Jaguar xj6

I have the opportunity to purchase a 1986 Jaguar xj6 for $1500. It has
been sitting outside for 2 1/2 years. The owner states it needs a new
alternator, which he has and will include in the purchase. My question
is what do I need to look for in a car that has been sitting for this
long and what kind of repairs can I expect to have to make before it is
drivable?

Rust......

If rusty, expect big wiring troubles.

That also is pretty expensive for a non runner 'parts car' which is all
it is. The wrecker will only likely give the person fifty bucks which
is fair value for junk.

On a vehicle that old, all the rubber parts and lines are suspect. If
any rust, expect to change 'all' the brake and gas lines, brake
calipers, cylinders, etc....

The gas tank also is likely done in from age and rot.

You need to be really friendly with your tools to own a mid 80's
machine.

In my opinion, the fact that you are asking this questions
suggests that the best thing you can do is run away from it.
