Radio
Just bought a '93 325. It has an am/fm cassette, but no CD player or
changer. I'd rather have a single disk player than a changer in the trunk.. Is it possible to simply replace the BMW head with a standard am/fm/ cd player without fouling up any of the other on board security or electronics? |

yep, pretty much any Circuit City, or Best Buy should carry an adapter that
will let you plug in an aftermarket headunit. Crutchfield carrys them too. "Noeta" > wrote in message ... > Just bought a '93 325. It has an am/fm cassette, but no CD player or > changer. The advantages are that if you shop around you will find a head unit with a much more sensitive FM receiver so you can actually get a decent selection of distant stations, an AM radio that actually works (unlike the POS OE Radio) and an indash CD player so you don't have to go around to the trunk to change the friggen CDs in the rain or snow. For eShopping I use the Crutchfield web site. They list FM sensitivity and make it very convenient to compare models. The prices aren't bad either plus they supply the wiring adapter you will need at no cost. One thing to note: You do not need any fancy active adapters (they will try to tell you that you do. Just wire the new deck in place of the old one with the free adapter and you'll be good to go. -Fred W What genius first came up with the idea to mount CD changers in the trunks of cars anyway? |

I'm trying to change out the factory radio in my '93 325IS and am having
problems. I can get he radion out OK, and found an wiring adapter for my new Pioneer CD palyer, but, can't get any sound from the speakers. If I connect an old set of speakers to the radio, i can prove the radio is working. But when I connect to the car speakers I get nothing. I measured across all the sonnections and get 2.5 M ohms. There are four Brown/Orange and 4 other colered wires. The old radion was of the anti theft type. Could that have anything to do with it? Would the anti theft break the conn to the speakers? |

Generally, you have to connect the remote amplifier lead out of the new head
unit to the remote antenna lead (white wire, pin #16 if I remember correctly.) The remote antenna lead also powers the remote amp. This could (probably) is the cause of no sound. Thank you!
We boughht an adapter at Best Buy, and the shape matches, but the pins don't. Had the same luck with circuit city. We did find we can pull the pins out and put them in different positions. We've located the Battery, Accessories, GND and speakers, but that only accounts for 11 of the 17 wires. Is there someplace where I can get the pin mappings, just ike you referenced pin #16? |
