It would not have happened with a stickshift transmission.
Ban auto trannys.

Sure it would, if you're already moving, and mean to slow down, but instead
jam the gas, you'd still keep going.

Problem isn't auto tranny, the problem is incompetent driver.

No,they would have better control since there's a clutch they would have to
use.Not just stomp-and-go.
(not to mention the lurch common when shifting a auto tranny into
Drive, which is what gets people stomping on the gas when they think they
are pressing the brake.)

AFAIK,there have been zero cases of unintended accelleration in cars with
manual transmissions.

Compounded by (or enabled by) an auto tranny.

I note there was no mention of the age of the driver, either.
(a poorly written article)

I currently drive an automatic. I don't stomp and go. And if the car
suddenly took off on it's own (assuming I was actually hitting the brake),
I'd still know how to kill it (shift into neutral or turn the ignition off).
Again problem isn't the automatic, it's the driver.

Which is why automotive manufactures were forced to put shift brake
interlocks after the last round of unintended acceleration lawsuits. Even if
you press the brake and the gas down at the same time (satisfying the
interlock), the brakes should overpower the gas.

Old people tend to like automatics. Fix the cause not the symptom.

The driver's name was "Dorthy" that puts her as being a fair age, as well
look at the enlargment of the photo. The occupents look old.

Essentially,yes you do.

Yet somehow, people still manage to get unintended accelleration,AND ONLY
with AUTO trannies.

That's another bonus;get the older folks off the roads.

> Fix the cause not the symptom.

Ah,get the older folks off the road?

(actually, since the UA problem only occurs with auto trannies, banning them
-would be- getting rid of the cause.)
