Default Rack & pinon

I am loosing a lot of power steering fluid. It appears to be coming from
the drivers side of the rack and pinon. When I purchased the vehicle 4
years ago, (98 Mountiner, AWD) the dealer sent the vehicle to a independent
mechanic and he replaced the rack and pinon with a rebuilt unit, that was
35, 000 miles ago. I now have 110,000 miles and plan on keeping the vehicle
for a long time. I recently purchased a Ford Motor Company, Truck service
information CD, version 21.0. Ford customer service division
FCS-12551-98T21. I am unable to locate anything about the rack & pinion on
the CD, perhaps I failed to get the correct CD.
Would someone please direct me to a site or link about the
removal/replacment of the Rack & Pinon.
Thanks to all,
Steve

I have the same CD. The steering gear information is in the chassis
section, scroll down to section 211-02 power steering, removal and
installation has a few pictures of hose connections. Good Luck

Hi Tom,
Thanks for the response. 211-02 refers to the power steering pump. I need
information on the rack and pinon.

I don't know about your specific manual but on mine if you look up vehicle
specific components you won't find anything. For example, if you have the
A4LD transmission you have to look under Transimssion even though the A4LD
has it's own category. If you have Control Trac you have to look under
Transfer Case.

So far my manual has given me all the information I needed. It's just a
matter of finding it.

Ulysses, you and Tom were both correct....I didn't dig far enough into the
CD. I found the remove/replace under the heading of steering gear. I'm
very glad to have found it, I have decided it is more than my limited
mechanic ablities can handle.
I appreciate the help from both of you.
Steve
