The essence of the anti-ABS argument seems to be that superior
technology breeds risk-taking and unjustified reliance on the superior technology. Let's go one better than not having ABS. Hell, why not block off the rear brakes. That will really foster conservative and attentive driving! Don www.donsautomotive.com |

I have seen demos on videotape purporting that ABS causes the vehicle to overshoot the stop point a manual brake will achieve. This can lead to collisions or worse. Maybe. I also know that night my ABS system saved me from a possible deadly crash. Take it to the seatbelt level. Do they save more lives than they take? How many people have burned to death in a car crash, or drowned or whatever, DIED, because they couldn't release the safety restraint system. Are there any? Absolutely. Does that justify not wearing them? You decide. I was in an accident where it kept me from impacting the steering column and possibly puncturing my thorax. Some people die because of their seat belts because they can't get out of a flaming car on time. What about motorcycle helmets? One kept my head in 1 piece when I crashed a bike into a highway guard rail. Other people say they are only good for snapping your neck. Ask Gary Busey about that. If you don't want ABS, don't buy it. If you don't want to wear a seat belt, cut the ****er out of your vehicle. Don't flame people who know from first hand experience that these things can save lives. And I carry a seat belt slasher and window breaker in my vehicles for quick escape. Lg |

LOL... right on Don. I am really amazed/amused by the number of people
out there that have the notion that the ABS system is not only worthless... but is worse that non-ABS braking. This in my opinion is ridiculous and has no basis in fact. Hey... maybe they think dragging their feet like the Flintstones is even better... Professor www.telstar-electronics.com |

All these safety devices have rewarded you hansomely. Drive carefully. |

Besides that, I was an over-the-road driver ( while doing Field Service ) for 10+ years, and put on lots of company miles. Sooner or later, statistics catch up with you. I drove interstate, but never coast to coast. So I want to call myself a professional driver, but that isn't quite true today. Today I am mostly off the road nursing a diseased heart and failing kidneys ;-| That said, I could have been killed a dozen times over, without hardly giving it any thought. I can think of 2 dozen times if I give it some thought, and probably 3 dozen times if I think real hard about it. I guess it "Isn't My Time" yet. And indeed, I try to stack the deck in my favor with Safety Equipment but still, G-d has been good to me. BTW, I went to buy 30 minute road flares today. They want only $2.97 per flare. Nobody needs to die on the road at night if they think their life is worth more than $3 US. My next *project* is to make a flare holder that I can stick 3 in at a time, out of wood. One of these days busy busy! Lg |
