Default Screetching sound when battery dead

When my battery is low and recharging, I get a screeching sound that stops
when I get up some speed. When I come to a stop and startup again, the sound
returns. This keeps happening for a few days and once the battery is fully
charged, no more screeching sound. What are the possibilities?

The alternator belt is loose/slipping.
