04 vs. 05 vette
I'm thinking in a year or 2 purchasing a used '05 or '04 vette and
wonder which is a better choice? I'm not considering at this time mileage or cost but improvements, safety and reliability. Also, just curious, anyone know what a new or used vette is estimated to cost per mile nowadays? I've read most new cars today are in the 50 to 60 cent/mile range. Any good sites to find this info and keep up to date on this stuff? |

If that cost question is for real, go back and reassess your wants and
needs. If you're writing a book, ask the folks at Rent-a-vette. Look at 'grins per mile.' In this group, $$/mile would be a real scatter plot. Usage is too variable (ranging from a few daily drivers to guys that just go out to smash bugs on weekends). I'd guess mine runs me somewhere between 5 and 10 bucks per mile --99.5% smiles --0.25% 'whoops' --0.25% 'oh ****' Paul. Gheeze some of the guys I know freak out if they ven come close to putting on 5,000 miles a year... But back to the OP's question....lets drop back to 1997...which to buy a 96 or a 97.... unless you went for a Grand Sport or got one hell of a discount... financially you would be well ahead with a 97... Personally I think the situation will remain the same even with the fact that the C6 is not all that different from a C5 wheras the 97 was a big jump from the 96... I very much agree it is the "smiles per mile" that works for me... and to be honest a BB 67 could end up having both very high smiles per mile figures and a very low cost per mile ..darn things are going up in value and insurance is dirt cheap...but oh the cost of gasoline would be felt a lot more... Bob Griffiths Looking for a 2000 FRC myself... 64 72 76 79 & 95 "smile machines" in the garage |
