4x4 Explorer
My son has an old 4WD Explorer.
Last week in the mountains he tried to engage the 4WD (dash button) & it falied to engage. We solved the temporary problem by buying chains. Now he's out ot the snow & cold, the 4WD stll won't engage but he hear's a "click" whne the 4WD switch is pressed. Hi's car sat for about week in 30F weather before the problem. Funny thing was I met another group of kids (when we were buying chains) with a much newer Explorer that would enage its 4WD; similar situation. Anybody got an idea? Bob |

What year?? Some of the first push button ones had a module involved
that operated an electric motor that did the actual shift at the transfur case. The module, in alot of the ones I fixed, was the usual problem. Don't rule out the switch or the motor & diagnose it properly but thats probably where you'll wind up. Good luck. |
