Default LCD dissapointing for sims

After much debating about latency, I took the plunge today, and bought a
Viewsonic VP201 20 inch LCD monitor (1600x1200) and an ATI 800XT platinum
video card to drive it.

The screen is just brilliant for photos and other still use, but I bought it
specifically for sims. It was a bit let down. It has 16ms response time,
which I understand is about as fast as it gets for a big screen, and I
understood that this was ok, but it gets very blurry when the car is
cornering. It is not only disconcerting, but I'm actually feeling nauseated.

I read some great reviews of this screen, and a couple of others that warned
that it wasn't fantatic for gaming, but bought it anyway.

At least I didn't buy two of them! I'll wait until things improve further,
or buy a smaller (faster) LCD for sim racing.

I bought a Viewsonic VX910 16ms 19" 1280x1024 a couple of months ago and I
have never seen any blurring. I'm VERY sensitive to low fps or anything on
screen that can make someone nauseous :-p and this monitor has been
flawless. Strange that you would be having such a different experience.

Might be worth doing some benchmarks to check that the whole system is
running properly.

I have a 19" 8ms monitor on a PC with a very lowly video card, I have to run
Unreal at 1024*768 to get rid of the blurring.

I also have a 19" 12ms monitor on another monster PC and that runs fine at
the native 1280*1024.

One final comment, there were a while ago some comments that some DVI
implementation would not cope with the data transfer rate to get 1600*1200
working properly. If you DVI and VGA try swapping.

Agree w. DGF. Maybe TE didn't properly vet the settings (rez, refresh,
etc.) I've used a 25ms 19" Dell for sims and FPS for a year. Works gr8 w.
driving sims, not so gr8 w. flying sims, and a little worse w. quick-twitch,
run-n-gun, shoot-em-ups like UT, Far Cry & BF1942. But fine for racing.
Yer LCD is prolly twice as nice as mine. Check yer settings.

Thanks for your comments.

Things have improved significantly. The first thing I did when I plugged the
monitor in was drive Richard Burns Rally, then wrote the above message.

An hour or so later, I tried again, and it was much better. It seem that I
need to give the monitor time to warm up, as it was completely cold when I
fired it up and dived (or drived) straight in.

I still notice the blurrying when things move quickly (like when I spin!),
but the screen is now useable. There is always some slight blurryness when
moving, but it is acceptable.

Thanks for your feedback.

I think a 19 with 12 or 8ms is as much as you want to push at this time...
The bigger one's aren't 'there' yet.

I've heard the 912B is even better, but no one seems to carry the damned
thing.

Judging by the review over at GamePC, I think you really need to check
your settings. They love the thing.

I have this monitor and have not encountered what you describe. I run
everything at 1600x1200 (native) on a 9700 pro and sims and shooters show no
blurring.

I think you're expecting too much and you just might be very sensitive to
blurring.

I know I have a Gateway 18" monitor, Flat Panel, and I notice no blurring or
anything that makes me feel disappointed with my purchase. And this monitor
is nothing big and is in no way top of the line.

If you're looking for the perfect monitor, flawless in every way, you might
as well expect the Indians to win a World Series, both of which are not
likely to happen.
