1979 Super Beetle Convertible Floorpans...
I just bought this car and noticed the previous owner had floor pans
installed over existing pans with serious rust holes and such.this was done when a new interior was installed. Is this normal and what should I do with them? I will be using as a daily driver while fixing the car up. It all depends on how picky you are and how bad the original pans are. Are
the new pans attached to the old pans or are they bolted in correctly? I don't know how that would be done. Are there simply pieces installed over existing pans to patch them. If the floor is sound leave it alone for awhile. Replaceing the entire floor is no big deal, just time consuming. A weekend with a sawzall, some wrenches and a bit of spot welding and your good as new. Some people use pop rivets in place of welding. I did mine on my 79 a few years ago - a little bit of cursing and good as new. Good luck.
