Default Powered antenna in 2001 WE Jetta?

Hey all, I have installed an aftermarket radio in my wolfsburg 2001
jetta. Now, I have read that some have powered ant. some don't. My am
reception is null and void, and fm reception is ok, but could be better.
This is my question, does the power amp for the antenna actually get fed
12v through the antenna's center conductor wire? I have no other wires
coming off the ant. wire, and there is no other wires from the factory
loom that is open (aside from the set that goes to the trunk for the cd
changer). If it does take 12v from the ant. wire itself, do I need to
isolate it somehow with a diode or something?

TIA.

You'll need a powered antenna adapter like this one from Crutchfield:

This is the one I have installed in my 2001 Jetta and it works great. It feeds 12V thru the center wire and has the proper isolation
circuit already built in.

Looks like you'll be taking out the headliner and replacing the antenna cable now.
