Current Liberty styling will undergo a major change for '08.
There will be similarities with the current Dodge Nitro (being built
at the same factory as current Liberty's).
The Nitro will be the "on-road" version, giving Dodge customers a
choice of a smaller option to the Durango.

The Liberty is to retain its "off-road" capabilities.

IMHO, isn't this "common platform" concept what got
the US carmakers in trouble a few years ago when virtually all the
cars from a manufacturer were basically the same with only restyled
trim, grills & interiors? I understand the need to reduce costs, but
when you have to see the name plate to tell the difference between
models, they get boring.

It looks like they were going for the retro 40s-50s panel truck look in the
front end.

I found this interesting:
"Confirmed: a 4.0 liter V6 or a new 3.8 liter V6 for minivans and Pacificas.
The 4.0 is 255 hp with about 265 lb-ft of torque. It's not tuned for "paper
racing" (that is, with an inflated horsepower rating), but apparently has a
nice torque curve and gas mileage similar to the 2004 215 hp / 245 lb-ft 3.8
liter V6 (which was rated 18 city, 25 highway, only 1 mpg less than the
3.3). ("hawida" noted that the 3.8 had been changed to 205 hp, 240 lb-ft for
2006, possibly due to new measurement rules by SAE.)

"Chrysler has generally tuned its minivan engines for low horsepower and
high torque, since off-the-line full-load acceleration is more important
than fast unloaded quarter-mile sprints (of the type magazines use). Thus,
its engines' horsepower ratings should not be blindly compared with those of
popular cars."

They are there. Enlarge the pics, and look under the screen.

Not hides, but disguises them. Remember, it is an '08 model. They don't want
you to know what it looks like.

Manufacturers will go to great lengths to change (hide, disguise, etc) the
look of new vehicles when they are out testing them. It keeps people
guessing.

You're possibly looking at the Dodge Nitro, dang near the same thing.
You can see a picture of it in the 2nd link given in the OP under the
Jeep Liberty/Dodge Nitro heading. The 1st link in the OP shows a covered
up version with apparently a front cover for the Nitro, but you can see
the sloted grill through the mesh, particularly in the 4th photo.

Well, then maybe there IS hope.
I thought that the vinly bra was all the camo it had and saw the other as
the grille. Pretty high on the yuck factor.

Not that I'm planning on buying another one, but still...
