We'll have to call this a tie! Apparently there is nothing that gets in under Leon's radar! Chris 92BB&T "Leon van Dommelen" > wrote in message ... > "W. The yellow tint to the sun may be due to retinal fatigue [staring at
one color then looking away to see a ghost image of the 'opposite' color as stated above]. It may also be caused by the scattering of light by the atmosphere. The atmosphere predominately scatters visible light in the high-energy/low-wavelength [blue] end of the spectrum, thus the appearance of a blue sky [the scattered blue light entering your eye]. As the blue light gets scattered, the spectrum of the remaining light passing through the atmosphere 'warms,' - shifts towards the low-energy/high-wavelength [red] end of the spectrum. Throughout most of the day, this would cause the sun to appear yellow. Near each end of the daylight hours, at sunrise and sunset, the light must travel through more atmosphere to reach us because the light's path is more horizontal. This warms the spectrum even more, producing red sunrise and sunset. |
