Default chevy fuel line 'quick disconnect' question.

('99 Cavalier, replacing gas tank.)

To uncouple the fuel line, I have remove a plastic 'quick disconnect' at
the filter. Things are kind of rusty, and stuck together. Does the
plastic part (the lock?) come off with the line, or does it stay with
the filter?

TIA,
George
