Default 2004 miata installing a navigation system

Has anyone successfully installed a navigation system in a 2004 miata? I
just checked best buy's compatibility chart (don't laugh) and it says the
system doesn't fit; however checking the measurements i think it could fit
as we already have one in our 4runner (yes a different breed than miata).
I"m specifically interested in Pioneer's avic n2.

Depth can be a problem if you are using the "DIN" slots. Once in, the
plastic surround may need to be trimmed before it is reinstalled. Finally,
the tilt up screen may not extend far enough out to clear the plastic
surround and dash above the DIN stack. At least that was the experience
with some DVD player/moniters a couple of years ago. (The monitor external
inputs could be plugged into compatable outputs from laptops and other
devices.
