Change plugs AND coils

When you change plugs, do you go ahead and change the coils or wait until they go out?

You wait until they "go out".

Change the plugs as per the the manual (and the wires, if any), and your
coils will outlast the car.

Depends what kind of car and how much mileage is on it.

There are some Ford models where the ignition driver module ought to be
swwapped out in a tuneup, even.

oh, they do. All the time. I can count on one hand the number of times
I have seen an old fashioned external single barrel-style coil go bad.
COP on the other hand?....all the time. Some mfgr even have TSB on
replacing ALL of them for misfire codes (Ford), and "primary circuit
malfunction codes" (Nissan).

If the coils have boots you can replace, those should be done with the
plugs as maintenance. They don't fit tightly on the plug once they are old.
