95 Dodge Avenger CD trouble!!!!
I have a 95 Avenger, purchased new, original owner. Currently my
screen on the radio/CD player does not work. The CD and Radio works fine. But the display with the clock or stations don't light up anymore. I have no idea what station I'm on until the station mentions their name. I changed the fuse, but I'm thinking it's the fuse inside the radio/CD itself. I haven't the slightest idea of how to go about that. It's factory installed Infinity I think. Or do you think I should just get a new radio all together. Any advise would be much appreciated. TIA. |

After a while, the bulb burns out. If you're careful, and you have an afternoon to spare, you can go to Radio Shack, buy some tiny bulbs for a couple of bucks, take the radio apart, and replace the bulbs. They usually solder in. Not hard, but a real PITA. --Kamus |

I seem to recall a problem around 1995 with a resistor burning out, which caused the blue-green display to go blank. The radio works okay, but there is no power to the display. This only involved the Infinity version. My wife's radio was recalled for this from her 1995 Cirrus. I would recommend against trying to troubleshoot this yourself, but if you do, look for a 2 or 3 W resistor on the front panel PCB. Of course, it could also be the chip which drives the display segments, or it could be the display itself. Each has its own failure modes. Your best bet is probably going to be to find a used radio at a salvage yard, especially for a car which is nearly 10 years old. Dan |
