Neon battery cable
The terminals on my Neon's battery had a lot of corrosion on them, so I
cleaned the terminals. I wanted to remove the + cable to better clean it, and found I had no wrench that fit the nuts. A 1/2 inch is too big, a 7/16 is too small. Anyone know if these nuts are metric? Or are they an unlikely 15/32? The nut is too close to the battery holddown top to get an adjustable around it- I hesitate to use one of those anyway, as the nut looks like a soft copper. I have cleaned most of corrosion off, but would still like to get the connection off, to clean inside of cable connector and battery post. |

Likely metric. An 11 M comes to mind.... The GM power terminal where
the small battery cable goes on the Vans is an 11 for sure. Neon's metric. I've worked on a friend's.
Seems to me, 10mm is the common size, but I could be wrong. Wouldn't hurt to buy a rack of 10 to 15 mm sockets at your local discount house. Probably wouldn't be much more than buying a single size. |

Aye, someone who knows math ;>O I find that for most of the smaller nuts that 10mm and 12mm are the most common. Don't think I've even found an 11mm. |

That is exactly why I wanted to find the right wrench (although these
are copper rather than lead). Comboverfish wrote: > But to reitterate what one poster said, try a 12mm, it's slightly > larger than 7/16". Lead terminal nuts are good for wearing down from > overtorque, rounding off, and corroding into new, non-hexagonal sizes. > > Toyota MDT in MO > |
